The most beautiful long stories ever…

If you are one of those who always wish to turn dirt into gold, I would like to tell you that you are not the only one who has this wish. Over the past many years, there have been many who spend very long hours in desperate attempts to turn dirt into gold. These people have been called alchemists. Despite undergoing many experiments, this wish is still a wish in reality. But is it really possible to turn dirt into gold?!

Long ago, there lived a young man with his wife, who loved him very much, in a simple, modest village. Because of her intense love for her husband, she feared for him in one matter and could not help him at all. Her husband spent all his time persistently and seriously trying to turn dirt into gold. He also spent all his money and did not have time to work in order to provide for the household expenses.

One day, the wife decided to talk to her husband about everything that worried her and made her life miserable. She said to him: “My dear husband, I see you trying all day and night to turn dirt into gold. I worry a lot about you, because you know for sure that I love you, and all I ask of you is that you stop doing this.” Despite her using a refined and rational dialogue style, her husband’s response silenced her. He was shocked in her face, saying: “Everything I do, I do for you, and one day you will thank me for everything I do.”

The wife was afraid to answer her husband immediately, but she knew deep down that she would not live with her husband until she saw with her own eyes what he was hoping for. The wife was certain that she was in dire need of help, so she went to her father to complain to him about what she was suffering from her husband and his actions, and to express her concern if her husband continued on the same path, insisting on his opinion. She said to her father with tears in her eyes: “Father, every day from morning to evening my husband tries hard to turn dirt into gold. Father, there is not much time left and all the money we have will run out, and whenever I talk to him and try to convince him, he does not listen to me.”

Her father understood what she wanted and on the same day he went to see his son-in-law and said to him: “I want to tell you a secret. Did you keep this secret from me? When I was your age, I was a chemist like you and I wanted to turn dirt into gold. I spent many years going from experiment to experiment and after many, many years and suffering, I reached the secret.”

His son-in-law's face lit up with joy as he asked, “Have you really figured out the secret?”

His father-in-law, who was very wise, answered him: “Yes, I have found out the secret, but when I got to it, I ran out of time. You see, I am getting old and it is difficult for me to do it. At that time, I did not trust anyone younger than me.”

At this moment, the wise man looked into his son-in-law's eyes and spoke directly to him: “But now I have found someone I can trust blindly.”

His son-in-law was very happy with what he heard. The expression of happiness and joy on his face was like the joy of a little child who finally got what he wanted.

The wise man began to give him the secret, saying: “At first, two-thirds of the secret lies in the silver powder. This powder grows on the back of banana leaves. So we have to plant banana seeds in vast lands. While planting them, we have to cast the magic spell that I spent years searching for every day. Once these plants are mature, we have to remove the silver powder from the back of each leaf and keep it well. We have to collect from this magic powder the equivalent of two pounds of silver.”

“But that will require hundreds and hundreds of banana trees,” his son-in-law said.

His wise father-in-law replied, “That is precisely why it required so much hard work that I was unable to do it, but now I can lend you all the money you will need to rent the land, cultivate it, and take care of the smallest details until we reach the silver powder we want.”

The ambitious young man did not waste a second. Finally, his dream, which had been his passion throughout his life, was close thanks to the secret that would enable him to turn dirt into gold. He immediately rented a large piece of land, prepared it and planted banana seeds in it. Every day he would cast the magic spell. He did not neglect to take care of it. Every day he worked to remove weeds, keep away pests and take good care of every seedling in the land despite its vastness.

Days passed and as soon as the plants were mature and had grown on their branches, the young man removed the silver powder from the back of their leaves, but he found it to be very little, so he had to plant more bananas. It took him a few years, but he finally collected two pounds of silver worth of powder.

He ran to his father-in-law to give him the good news that he finally had enough silver powder. What was the next step?

His wise father-in-law replied, “Very great. Now I will teach you the rest of the secret. You have to bring me a bucket of dirt from the banana plantation that I planted and you have to bring my daughter with you.”

The young man did not understand this, but he did what his father-in-law told him to do. He filled a bucket with dirt from the banana farm, returned home, and asked his wife to go with him. The two of them went to her father's house.

The sage asked his daughter: “My daughter, when your husband was saving the silver powder, what did you do with the bananas?”

His daughter replied, “I was selling it and kept all the money.”

Her father asked her, “Can I see the money?”

The daughter looked at her father, asked their permission, and returned home. After a short while, she returned to them carrying a bag containing many gold coins. The wise father took the bucket of dirt and threw it on the ground, and poured out the gold coins as well, making one pile of dirt and opposite it a pile of gold. He looked at his son-in-law and said: “Do you now see how you can turn dirt into gold?!”

Finally, the young man learned a very valuable lesson that one can turn dirt into gold only through hard work, patience and perseverance.
